Hello Clara! First of all, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions and let our readers into your world! Can you introduce yourself in a few words?
My name is Clara, I am 21 years old and I am Belgian! I started my fashion&beauty blog, "The Tall Blonde", 2 years ago. It’s a place where I like to share my everyday looks, beauty tips or reviews of products that I’ve tested. It’s my own chic universe, classy with a touch of rock. That could also describe my personal style. I don’t really follow trends that much; I wear those that I like but they’re not something I go crazy for every season.
Your username, the Tall Blonde, comes from a nickname your dad gave you when you were little. Do your family and friends support you in this project?
Yes, that's right! My close family supports me a lot. My mother and my little brother take my photos and it’s something that always surprises people when I tell them! As for my friends, it depends. No one really talks about it. Some of them follow me and "like" my posts, others do not. I think a lot of people don’t understand this system yet. They think we see ourselves as stars or I don’t know. But what is certain is there’s definitely some "taboo" around me. Some girls will tell me "wow, I didn’t know you were doing that, it's awesome, I love it!”, some won’t, and there you are. I don’t really care. In the end, I do what I want to do and I’m not interested in whoever has a problem with that!
You study public relations; what do you plan on doing after you finish your studies?
I mainly started my blog because it’s something that’s linked to my studies. What I learn and see in class, I can put it into practice on my blog. It is a way of combining two passions: my studies and fashion. It also helps me meet people in the business and gain experience by myself, etc. I have many different projects for after I finish my studies, nothing very concrete yet! I would like to work or do an internship abroad, do a complementary master’s in fashion, I already thought of launching my own company but it's way too early to talk about that, haha!
You’re very active on Instagram, what are some of your sources of inspiration?
I've been on Instagram since I was 16, I think; it was when the app was getting really popular. That's when I discovered all those fashion "influencers" that I love! I have so many sources of inspiration on Instagram and I really like telling my followers about them from time to time! I love @josefinehj for her style and her "unposed", very rock photos. I love @notyourstandard for her very aesthetically pleasing feed, for her consistent photos and her overall style that fits me very well. I also like @sophiemilner_fs for the articles she writes about feminism or the women’s cause in general, always in such a fun and super well documented way! When it comes to Belgians, I love Claire from @milkywaysblueeyes! For me, she’s the best one we have here in Belgium. She is so creative and such a hard-worker, I love following her.
What do you think are some of this autumn’s must-haves?
There's the Glen plaid. IM-PO-SSI-BLE to miss it this autumn, it’s EVERYWHERE! It makes me laugh even more because, as I said in the beginning, I am not really a follower of trends and I’ve been wearing Glen plaid for the past 3 years; I’ve been told that it’s "old-fashioned". And now everyone’s wearing it... Same goes for berets, which we also see everywhere now thanks to the Dior fashion show in particular. When it comes to colors, red and pink are very trendy this season. Personally, this year I’m gonna go for vinyl. I bought a pair of red vinyl pants and I have to say that it’s a piece you really have to feel comfortable and confident in, especially if you’re someone like me, who doesn’t go unnoticed because of their height, haha!
Let's talk beauty! Do you have a homemade trick to share with us? :)
I use a lot more stuff daily than I thought! I put castor oil on my eyelashes at night to make them grow and keep them thick and "healthy". I drink hot water with lemon every morning; it helps keep my skin clean. And I sometimes make myself hair masks using a mixture of coconut oil, castor oil, shea butter oil and natural oil for hair created by Maison Roger.
Let's dream a little! The perfect trip, where, when, who would you travel with? :)
I have SO many dream destinations, haha! I’ve never been outside Europe so I dream of discovering the United States, but that’s quite banal... I also dream of discovering Japan, it’s a culture that I find magnificent. Many other countries like Australia, islands like Réunion or Mauritius, etc... But Europe is also full of gems that I haven’t finished exploring: Ireland, Scotland, the Scandinavian countries, Greece, etc... And I’ve been in love with Italy for years, I love discovering new things every time I go! I will travel with my family, I think, our travels have brought us closer together in recent years and we like doing the same things so it's great!
Could you describe what a normal day looks like for you?
My days are not particularly exciting, haha, they are identical to those of other students my age, I think! I get up and check all my social networks, I check my notifications and the news that were posted during the night. During the week, I eat and get ready for my classes. Then I go to University. I have quite the heavy schedule this year. I am at school every day until about 6pm. Then I go home and I work for my courses and my blog in the evening; I retouch photos, write my next articles and other things. On weekends, I start my days with a bit of sports in the morning. I shoot one or more looks for the blog, usually on Sundays. I try to do some stuff during the weekend to get a bit ahead of schedule for the next week.
And finally, what Comptoirs d'Orta piece would you like to get for your wardrobe? :)
We want to thank Clara for taking the time to answer our questions and we wish her the best! Keep up the good work!
